Ste Croix du Mont
Great value for money is to be had from the best of the botrytised sweet wines in this appellation on the Right Bank of the Garonne opposite Sauternes and Barsac. The development of “noble rot”, key to the creation of tertiary flavours and aromas that mark out the best sweet wines, depends here more on the Garonne itself than on its tributaries, and the best vineyard sites benefit from the advantage of gravel slopes over a limestone substructure, which enhance the botrytis growth more consistently than in neighbouring Loupiac or Cadillac.
